Welcome to, "Ashram Memories," a recollection. A story Baba used to tell comes to mind. Perhaps someone reading this can email me the correct story. But it went something like this...

"In ancient times, there was a devoted seeker who remembered God and Guru every day. However, he knew that until perfection was reached, he could always fall.... so he told his closest associates that if he ever got lost in worldliness, if he ever forgot his true nature, if he ever forgot the self, that they should sing these certain shlokas, to remind him of the self again...."   so here are some recollections of my own.

Shree Gurudev Siddhapeeth, Ganeshpuri Ashram, during a heavy monsoon ~ Shree Gurumayi was on tour...only a few of us staying in Ganeshpuri. Alone in my room, looking out over the field, watching the rain, listening to the rain pour down. Hearing the heavy roar, feeling the stillness. No thoughts, no mind. That's all there was. That's all there needed to be...

Middle of India...somewhere...middle of a busy bustling city, middle of an outdoor park, the sun sets.
Warm breeze brings the smell of the hot city air. Brings peace. Brings quiet... Gurumayi speaks to an audience of thousands and thousands. I couldn't understand Hindi, so I'd wait for her to sing bhajans. I remember the power and glory of her voice when she would sing this incredible Gurjarati bhajan, "Eka Ja De China Gari." No harmoniums or tambouras were played to keep tune, yet Gurumayi's voice was more perfect than perfection. Just the melody of her voice. She would sing this bhajan at the top of her lungs. I felt her voice reverberate throughout the park, throughout the whole city, surely throughout the whole of India. Merging with the timeless sound of thousands of years past; of chanting, of the sadhana which sages and saints of years past performed in that very spot. This was the best sound in the whole universe! To this day, it is the echoes of Gurumayi singing this bhajan, which I will never forget.
